How does the Leaf Defier handle Winter issues and ice?

The Leaf Defier drains melting snow of its water and weight, preventing the huge buildup of ice many homeowners face in the Winter even when their eaves are clean. With the Leaf Defier, as temperature fluctuates, melted snow will not form slush in your eavestroughs. Rather, water will immediately drain through the open cells of the Leaf Defier and flow unimpeded to your downspouts. Consequently, slush will not turn into a layer of heavy ice. Although with the Leaf Defier your eavestroughs will have snow on them, the snow will retain little moisture and have little weight. Ice will not fill your eavestroughs, and all our past customers have reported a great reduction in icicle formation. Most importantly, when the snow on your roof melts, draining water will not be impeded by ice and will not flow over or under eaves and soffits.

It is the unique no-top-surface-area characteristic of Leaf Defier that allows this process of immediate, slush-preventing water draining. Many products that may perform in summertime do not handle the ice issue in Winter, and allow ice to buildup in your eaves, on your roof, and in icicles.

How does the Leaf Defier handle Pine Needles?

Only the experienced home-owner knows to ask this question. Unlike every other product on the market, the Leaf Defier is impervious to pine needles. Leaf Defier is an open cell design, but it is dense enough that no needle can stick through the product more than about a centimetre. We have done installations in homes underneath huge pine trees, and next to no needles make it into the product. Even with needles resting on the surface, Leaf Defier preforms perfectly. This is far from the case with other products.

Does the Leaf Defier impede the flow of water?

No. The Leaf Defier is a filter, not a sponge. It retains no water, and handles the most water intake of any gutter protection system in the industry. Ask for a free demonstration and we'll run the product under a hose in front of your eyes. The open-cell design also utilizes 100% of the gutter capacity.

Do I have to clean my eavestroughs before you install the Leaf Defier?

Absolutely not. A thorough cleaning of your eavestroughs is included -- the last one you'll ever need.

Will the Leaf Defier installation affect my roof warranty?

No. We do not lift, drill into or alter the shingles on your roof. Your roof warranty is safe!

How much does the Leaf Defier cost?

The installation depends on a number of factors, including:

  • The length of your eavestroughs
  • How many stories your home has
  • The lay of the land and the need for particular equipment to perform the installation

Does the Leaf Defier replace my existing eavestroughs?

No. The Leaf Defier is an insert that is cut precisely to fit into your existing eavestroughs and around the spikes.
